Özet

Rooftop PV systems are becoming cheaper and more popular than ever before. This review will look at the current status of rooftop PV systems regarding its different types of systems, the economic and environmental impacts, both positive and negative, proof of concepts in the real world, and what role rooftop PV systems could play in the future of energy generation in a world that is moving towards sustainability. Subsequently, it will also discuss the design of such a rooftop PV system, since it is not a trivial one. A (rooftop) PV system consists of many parts that are chosen depending on a multitude of factors. At its most basic, choices for a rooftop PV system must be made regarding the types of PV panels and inverters, orientation of these panels, and the option to include a battery or not should be considered. With (rooftop) solar energy gaining a bigger market every year, a review should be done on how such a system can be designed in the most efficient way possible. A number of these choices will be discussed, and a summary will be given on what current techniques have to offer in terms of efficiency. A general design strategy is then concluded. However, a realistic design must account for a lot of known and unknown features, all depending on location, budget, load profile, and much more. Since the real designing of a system happens with specialized PV design software tools a comparison will be made between some of the more popular ones, regarding accuracy as well as scenario specific usage.
