Abstract:

Nowadays asynchronous motors are quite widely used in industry. This motor is preferred more than other motors due to low cost and simple design. Besides many advantages of asynchronous motor, it has an disadvantage of high starting current. High starting current is the first drawing current from the grid during the start-up of the motor. This current usually changes due to the power and pole number of the motor, and approximately draws between 3-6 times of the rated current. In this case the motor stays longer in the start-up which might cause a damage to the winding. When all these factors are taken into account, the design of the motor might become complicated according to consumer's demand of different frequencies and voltages. During this design, there are common standards as well as many parameters affecting it. The goal is to reach the optimum value of each parameter that they are related to each other. In this subject, an asynchronous motor, which holds the decreasing start momentum at the optimum value during the increasing frequency, is designed. Since the power, torque and frequency are related to each other, the output power is proportionally loaded to the motor during frequency increasing so that the momentum can be kept constant. The motor designed in this subject is squirrel caged motor having a frequency of 50 Hz, 120W with 2 poles and 3 phases. The frequency values are 50, 60, 80 and 100Hz.
