Abstract:

Port facilities are the main transportation bases for world trade and also an area of interaction from the local commercial activities to the global trade activities. For this reason, marine facilities shoul be designed properly and should be equipped with effective use in.Seismic performance evaluation of pile-wharf structures based on performance-based evaluation criteria is set forth by the Turkish Code for Shore Structures (TCSS, 2008). TCSS (2008) recommends two methods for design and evaluation of pile-wharf structures which are called Strength-based Design and Deformation-based Design.According to TCSS (2008), a Normal Class pile-wharf structure is expected to withstand D1 level of earthquake ground motion with minor or no damage (Serviceable Damage Level), D2 level of earthquake ground motion with short-term loss of serviceability (Controlled Damage Level) and D3 level of earthquake ground motion with long-term or complete loss of serviceability (Extensive Damage in Near Collapse). The nonlinear interaction between soil and pile should somehow be considered in the pushover analysis. In this study, it is mentioned about force-based design methods of the vertical/batter pile-wharf structures. Performance-based design methods and foce-based design methods were used separately for case studies and accomplished according to TCSS (2008) and results have been discussed.Key words: Pile supported marine structures, jetties, wharfs, force-based design methods, performance-based design methods.
