Abstract:

Social Studies is a course in life. The subject of Social Studies is people. It deals with and examines people's lives. Social Studies enables the individual to understand the society and his place in the society. Local history can follow the origin of a society living in a certain place, the economic and political developments of the society, and their development characteristics and lifestyles. Values education is the general activities carried out to increase the knowledge and skills of the society. With values education, it first starts with the person and continues with the society. The aim of values education is to make the society good and happy. The aim of this research is to determine the current perception of the secondary school students of the values-based education in the Social Studies program about Values and Local History. The study was carried out with 130 secondary school students studying in central and village secondary schools affiliated to the Ministry of National Education in Kastamonu İnebolu district in the 2020-2021 academic year. Questionnaire form and document analysis were used in our research. "Social and Cultural Values Perception Questionnaire" and "Semi-Structured Interview Form" were used as data collection tools. A five-point Likert scale was used in the evaluation questions. IBM SPSS Statistics Subscripton package program was used for the analysis of the obtained data. The data obtained from the interview forms were analyzed. When we look at the findings obtained according to the results of the research, it is seen that the students have partial knowledge about the local history of the Inebolu district, but they are not at the level to teach local history in the course dimension.
