Abstract:In this study, production and wear behaviors of AlB2 reinforced aluminium matrix composites were investigated. Al-2B master alloy was melted in a steel crucible for 1 hour at 1200°C and then kept in the oven for 2 hours at 900°C for production of the composites. In this way, the AlB2 boride structures in the Al matrix were formed spontaneously as a result of exothermic reaction. The composite materials produced in different reinforcement ratios through a filtering system. Composite materials with different reinforcement ratios were subjected to abrasion tests after microstructures and hardness tests. The highest hardness was seen in the composite 15% reinforcement rate with an average value of 74,06 HB. The hardness value of pure Al matrix was determined as 28,59 HB. As the reinforcement ratio of the composites increased, the hardness values also increased. The behavior of composite materials in abrasive particle size, load, sliding velocity and sliding distance parameters were investigated. For experimental studies, the Taguchi approach was used and experiment recipes were created based on the L27(35) orthogonal series. The amount of wear of composites was measured by weight loss method. Composite samples were measured with precision scales before and after wear tests. In the test results, it is concluded that the resistance of material to wear increases with the increase of reinforcement rate. In addition, it has been determined that the abrasive sanding, the applied load and the sliding distance have an effect on the wear. Lower wear results have been achieved with less particle size, less load and less sliding distance.
