Abstract:In this study, it was aimed to synthesize TiB2 particles in Al and AL-Cu liquid matrices by using in-site production technique. Then, the other aim was to examine the production and properties of functional graded composites by tossing technique. Firstly, Al-Ti-B and Al-Ti-B-Cu solutions were separately prepared to synthesize TiB2 particles, were increased to 1200 ° C and were allowed to become cold in the air after waiting for 1 hour in this temperature. Thanks to this process, TiB2 particles were formed automatically in Al and Al-Cu matrix. In this way, ingots with a reinforcement ratio of about 3% TiB2 were produced. With the aim of producing functional graded composites, these ingots were used as preliminary material. Al (liquid) + TiB2 (solid) solution was formed by that 150 gram ingots that are placed in the mold is waited for 15 minutes at 800 °C. It was subjected to tossing process at speed of 3000 rpm for 2 minutes and allowed to become cold in the air. In the study that is used centrifugal casting, gravity casting, optical microscope, SEM, EDAX and XRD techniques, the composites were subjected to hardness and abrasive wear test. It has been observed that the hardness values of TiB2 / Al-Cu and TiB2 / Al composites have decreased from the outer walls of the graded composites, and the weight losses due to abrasive wear have increased. The highest hardness value was measured as 115HB in areas with a reinforcement content of 21% in the outer walls of the molds and 19HB in the inner region of the mold with a 0% reinforcement ratio. After the wear tests carried out in the 1000 grid sanding stage, it was observed that with the addition of 10% TiB2 and 5% copper added into the aluminum matrix, it decreased from 0.005 gr to 0.002 gr.
