Abstract:

This study aims to examine the performance of the co-combustion of municipal dewatered sewage sludge and natural gas in a power plant. The total capacity of the power plant was reduced to 1 MW and all results of the analysis were scaled accordingly. Thermodynamic analysis methods were carried out to evaluate the energetic performance of the power plant. The dry-based municipal sewage sludge was formulised as the fictive molecule of C4.13H8.58O2N0.61S0.04. Energy losses in the power plant were determined in detail. The net plant energy efficiencies were found to be 9.095%. When evaluated in terms of installation capacity, the annual system capacity utilization rate is 81.9%. The power plant can generate annual electricity of 7.177 GWh for 1 MW of installed power and can eliminate approximately 72,416 tonnes of municipal dewatered sewage sludge annually. The average value of CO2 emissions from electricity generation was found to be 888 g of CO2/kWhe. In this study, for the first time in the literature, the specific heat of smoke was calculated by dividing it into two separate components and significant equivalences were obtained.
