Abstract:

The opening performance made with the bağlama in folk music has an important place both in the past and today. In the scope of this study, the opening performances belonging to the Çamşıhı region, which is a part of the Divriği district of Sivas province, were examined and the analysis results were evaluated. During the examination and research, the culture of the region was taken into consideration and efforts were made to access written, audio, and visual sources. However, due to the scarcity of written sources specifically related to the subject, mostly audio and visual sources were utilized. Based on the information obtained from oral interviews with master performers, the opening performances of the Çamşıhı region with the bağlama, which is the main subject of the research, and the changes these performances have undergone over time were evaluated. In the scope of the study, the lives and musical journeys of both deceased and living master performers of the region were included in the research in order to highlight the similarities and differences in the performances of each period. In order to make the similarities and differences of the concept of opening visible with other terms used in different periods and different music genres, these terms were also included. Thus, the evaluation of the opening performance was made possible within a more comprehensive framework. The analysis of how this performance type, which is based on observation within the master-apprentice relationship in tradition, has undergone a change and what kind of learning method it requires continues to be a problem. As a result of the impact of urbanization and developments in the field of technology, bağlama performers now participate in collaborative works with different instruments, and as a result of these works, different performance styles influence each other. In this regard, change is inevitable in bağlama performances. Guiding, which is a type of performance made to convey the piece that will be performed after it, has turned into a more free music form over time, incorporating certain patterns such as mode, scale, and rhythm of the desired piece to be guided. In this direction, the theses, articles, papers, books, and journals written about bağlama openings were researched, and opening performance recordings determined for examination were transcribed. As a result, it has been determined that new concepts are needed in music terminology when considering the style, originality, and reproduction of bağlama openings, and that a new understanding of performance has emerged in the context, requiring the development of new learning methods. With these findings, in order to ensure the continuity of the opening tradition, which is one of our cultural values, and to be a bridge in transferring it to the future, the subject of opening has been examined in these aspects through the findings obtained from the analysis.
