Abstract:

In this thesis, different approaches were proposed to determine the value of degree-hours in conjunction with the distribution of outdoor temperature. These new approaches are aimed primarily to gain international literature. Turkey was chosen for the case study. Detailed analyses were done by examining the outdoor temperature data for 79 provinces in Turkey. Studies of the analysis are itemized below under six headings; a) to determine the distribution of outdoor temperature of the selected provinces in annual, monthly and hourly basis b) to determine the distribution of outdoor temperature depending on the impact of population distribution in Turkey c) to determine the reference temperatures for heating and cooling using the outdoor temperature set for Turkey d) to express the distribution of outdoor temperatures as a mathematical function e) to determine the values of degree-hours using the outdoor temperature distribution f) to bring in two new parameters to the literature (CO2 reducing effect and rate) by investigating the effect indoor comfort temperature for heating of 79 provinces on carbon dioxide emissions.
