Abstract:
Turkish music has been shaped according to the differences in style and attitude of the performers, as far as the memory of the works transferred through the meşk method, which was one of the traditional learning-transfer systems before the use of notes became widespread. With this study, the performance attitudes of the performers were examined and defined due to the need to reveal the differences between the performers when compared to each other, and it was aimed to create a resource for the newly trained performers. For this reason, the study was limited to two master performers, and the analyses were carried out on Münir Nurettin Selçuk and Bekir Sıdkı Sezgin, two of the accepted musicians of Turkish music. In this study, the lives of two important musicians, which form the basis of the study, their importance in Turkish music, the comparison of their style and attitude characteristics, and the performance-note difference, which is one of the various analysis methods, are discussed. The common works performed by these singers, the decorations made in the performance, and the differences in performance are examined and noted down, which are the subject of the study. Within the conceptual framework of the study, information was given about the developments in Turkish music in the late Ottoman and early Republic periods, the musical life of Münir Nurettin Selçuk and Bekir Sıdkı Sezgin in general, and their common works were presented in a list and evaluated in terms of their musical structure. This study is important because there are not enough studies on Turkish music performers in Turkey and it contributes to the field.
