Proje Özeti

One of the locomotive industries in Turkey is the construction industry (CI). Approximately 8% of the total workforce of Turkey is employed by CI.  However, the performance of the CI has been continuously found insufficient by the authorities such as governmental agencies and professional chambers. These problems force construction companies to pay more attention to knowledge management. Knowledge management prevents the re-invention of the wheel. In other words, knowledge management helps to prevent chronic problems. However, due to the several characteristics of the CI, the knowledge is being lost by the companies. Therefore, more systematic approaches required for knowledge management in CI. Risk management requires a considerable amount of knowledge, namely experience. In addition, considerable amount knowledge could also be collected at the end of the risk management about risks, probability of occurrence of the risks, impacts of the risks and risk responses. Since the knowledge captured by monitoring the risk management processes in the construction projects can be very beneficial for the forthcoming construction projects, this study aims to systematize the management of the knowledge emerged in the risk management processes. Firstly, risks and risk responses of several projects are going to be identified by the experts from the CI. A tool using case-based reasoning approach is going to be developed. The tool is going to retrieve the most similar past project to the current project from the database and risks and risk responses of retrieved project are going to be adapted to current project by the user. Once risks and risk responses of current project were validated, then this knowledge is going to be saved to the case-base.
