Migration
has been common throughout the human history and has been part of the history
of many nations for many centuries in varying degrees. In the case of the last
part of the 19th century and the early years of the 20th century, Ottoman
nations - including Arabs, Armenians, and other small Ottoman social groups -
experienced an unprecedented rate of migration.
This
project examines the reasons for this migration of the Lebanese and Syrian
people before World War I, primarily using Ottoman archival documents and
memories of immigrants. Actually, this project is based on two pillars: one of
them is the Ottoman archives and the archives of other countries include
memories of immigrants, to where the Lebanese Arabs migrated mostly.
