The most valuable treasure of the coastal settlements is the coastal scenery. In order to live in harmony with the seas, it is important to design the coastal structures without destructing the sea views. In the historical background of coastal engineering, technical approaches and design methods for the solution of coastal problems are also changing. In the past, durable, stable and balanced coastal structures are preferred to be designed, while the demand for aesthetic and sustainable use of the coastal structures of the inhabitants is increasing. In this study, intellectual design which is a new concept will be explained in coastal engineering. Coastal engineering design will be defined under the concept of urban space quality.
