Project Abstract

The proposal aims to pilot, with the participation of educators and students from several European countries, a learning course that targets to deliberate on sustainable building principles.

The aims will be fulfilled by realisation of the following objectives:

  •   selection of students and teachers from participating institutions

    to participate in the course

  •   preparation and development of appropriate teaching materials

and conduct resource survey on the topics mentioned above- evaluation of the scenario of sustainable buildings in the partner countries taking a cue from the student presentations in the course

  •   teaching and learning different aspects of sustainable building principles

  •   conducting of exercises on sustainability and projects on aspects of sustainable building-producing the course outcome for general consumption and their dissemination

The main beneficiaries of the project are first cycle (bachelor level) students. These students will be selected by each participating institution in open and publicised competition. Criteria of selection will be mainly based on the following aspects:

  •   proficiency in English language,

  •   study performance,

  •   interest in the thematic area,

  •   where necessary gender balance and disability consideration

  •   transversal skills as team work, self-learning, lateral thinking etc.

    Main activities will include:

  •   Prior to course: Administrative, organisational and technical

arrangements, preparation of teaching materiáls, selection of students, providing students with teaching and resource materiáls, organization and realisation of mobility, monitoring and evaluation, dissemination

  •   During the course: Delivery of course along with field trips, cultural visits, monitoring and evaluation, hospitality and organisational tasks

  •   After the course: Evaluation, dissemination, execution of contract responsibilities(report etc.), follow-up activities, dissemination

sustainability and sustainable development (SD) dimensions that influence their own knowledge discipline.

  •   Students will develop ability to apply assessment criteria or sets

of principles or available tools.related to sustainability in their

own discipline, building engineeering and/or architecture

  •   They will understand the impact of their discipline solutions or

actions in a sustainable building context.

  •   Developing ability to design processes, products and

components taking into account the life cycle analysis using the

    appropriate SD dimensions constraints.

  •   Developing ability to implement the needed actions to foster

sustainability in their professional and personal life.

  •   Transversal competencies: Because of the inovative pedagogical approach, during the preparatory phase and during the course, through course work, excercises and project work, students will develop transversal competencies like creativity, adaptability, lateral thinking ability, ability to work in a multinational team

    and self learning

    Expected outputs:

  •   Joint project website,

  •   compendium of course materials,

  •   student reports,

  •   evaluation report,

  •   learning resources,

  •   project brochure (at the outset, after completion),
