Abstract

Within the scope of the study, the effects of the three main transportation types in our country were compared from the environmental impact perspective. In the transportation sector, some modes of study were carried out to examine energy consumption and to improve energy efficiency. Subsequently, the environmental impacts of transportation types were investigated. Environmental impacts of railway, maritime and highway such as air pollution, water pollution, noise pollution as well as accident risks were examined. In the current situation, as a result of highway weighted transportation service, energy consumption, air pollution, noise pollution and accident risk are very high. To reduce environmental effects; new railway lines should be built and new corridors should be created to increase the rate of this environmentally friendly line. On the other hand, maritime commerce should be renewed, our harbors should be kept up to date, and this transportation mode which is environmentally friendly should be used more effectively.
