History is a social science discipline that each state uses as a means of teaching its official ideology and mission, its past and culture to keep its nation's citizenship bond strong. This is the truth that is generally accepted to lie in the subconscious of states. However, some states often did not hesitate to use the science of history as a disinformation tool to manipulate the past to their citizens. Especially in the 19th and early 20th centuries, when nationalism shaped state policies, the use of history and textbooks as a guiding tool for establishing the perception of citizenship was a method frequently used by newly established states. In this study, the current textbooks of Bulgarians, one of the nations that remained under Ottoman rule in the Balkans for a long time, were studied. Especially in this study; With the approval of the Bulgarian Ministry of Education and Science, the textbooks named "Human and Society" belonging to the 3rd and 4th grades, which are taught in schools in the 2018-2019 academic year, which correspond to the courses “Life Studies” and “Social Studies”, were examined. With this study conducted with the document analysis method, the way of perception of the Ottoman and Turkish image in the Bulgarian textbooks was studied. According to the research done, it has been observed that the Ottoman and Turkish images are negatively addressed in the textbooks.
