Özet

Energy demand is increasing due to rising energy consumption and it is anticipated that current energy resources will not be able to meet this demand in the near future. The researchers, therefore, study cheap alternative energy sources that will ensure environmental sustainability in economic and energetic strategies. Hydrogen energy is one of these alternatives. Efficient delivery of hydrogen from production to the end-user's consumption is possible with a well-established hydrogen supply network. Since hydrogen can be produced, stored and transported by different methods, several decisions at different levels (operational and strategic) must be made in order to achieve such an efficient network. The decisions include but are not limited to production, storage and transportation of hydrogen. Hydrogen energy can be produced by means of electrolysis from various sources such as renewable energy sources (wind and solar), biomass, and nuclear energy. It can be stored in forms of liquid and gas. The transportation medium between the production and storage facilities should be compatible with the existing technologies. The network should be installed in such a way that the cost of production, storage and transportation of hydrogen is minimized while satisfying the energy demand and conforming to the capacity of the production and transportation facilities. Finally, securing of the network must be considered as well. In this study, we study the optimal design and operation hydrogen supply chain network of Turkey using mixed integer linear programming. Our goal is to determine types of production and storage facilities, transportation infrastructure and estimated quantities of shipments between demand and supply points.
