Özet:

Cold-formed steel structural connections are being used more widely in routine structural
design as the world steel industry moves from the production of hot-rolled section and
plate to coil and strip. Their light weight, strength, flexibility, non-combustibility, and
ease of production has enabled engineers, architects, and contractors to use cold-formed
steel products that can increase structural efficiency and building performance, and
provide aesthetic appeal at a lower cost. There is a growing tendency in the use of coldformed steel constructions, which may be explained by good strength to cost ratio.
Connection presents a major parameter of the important elements for cold-formed steel
structure framing systems in order to attain its structural stability. The performance of
different cold-formed steel structure connections is well-discussed in order to capture the
behavior of each type of connection. Several classification schemes based on the total
moment-rotation behavior have been developed to aid in the design and analysis of
connection. Cold-formed steel connections were classified according to their strength and
rigidity into simple, semi-rigid, and rigid connections and discussed in detail.
Three-dimentional Finite element model of light weight cold formed steel connection
under cyclic loading were generated to investigate and study their behavior. Finite
element modeling software Abaqus was used for the numerical simulations of the coldformed steel structures and connections. The numerical results from the finite element
analysis were used to get the moment-rotation curve, which can be used to determine the
type of connection. The maximum von Mises stress failure criterion were used to predict
the yielding of the material. Two lipped sigma sections back-to-back with
interconnections are used as beam and column members. The connections between main
beams and columns (i.e. primary beam to column connections) are formed with gusset
plates. In brief, the properties of cold-formed steel connections have been found to be
semi-rigid, where the main factor affecting stiffness is bearing forces around the bolt hole.
