Professor Dr. Ahmet Demir was born in 1959 in Uşak, Turkey. He was graduated from Istanbul Technical University (ITU) as a civil engineer in 1981.
He started his academic career as a research assistant at Yildiz Technical University, Civil Engineering Department in 1983. He received , M.Sc. degree in 1985, and PhD degree in 1990 from the same university. In 1989, Dr. Demir graduated MSc from I.H.E. (Sanitary Engineering) in Delft, the Netherlands.
He appointed professor in 2002 and worked as the Head of YTU Environmental Engineering Department between 2006 and 2008 and as the Dean of YTU Civil Engineering Faculty between 2008-2010 and 2014-2016. He was the General Director of Istanbul Water and Sewerage Administration (ISKI) between 2010-2014.
