  • Pay attention to formatting
  • Do not write theoretical solutions on paper and paste pictures of it unless explicitly said that it is allowed. Instead, use equation editor.
  • Do not skip steps in your solutions. Add verbal explanations where necessary.
  • I wonder if anyone reads these anymore... Send me an email with a picture of this announcement for a chance of extra grades if this pre-experiment report follows the 3 bullets above.

  • The pre-experiment report is given in a .docx format for you to format the report properly before submission. Therefore,
    • Use equation editor to write equations,
    • If you need to draw circuits you can use circuit drawing software like Visio or draw.io,
    • Name figures and tables and refer to them in explanations,
    • And, in general compose your reports as "reports" and not documents where you put everything out of order and without any explanations.

15.04.2025

As planned, this week (16/04/2025), we are going to have an orientation about the experiments that will be conducted after the midterm.

  • Orientation will probably be held at A-014. Will edit the announcement if any changes happen.
  • After the orientation, we are going to conduct makeup experiments for the students who had proper excuses not to attend before the midterm
  • Students who can enter the makeup must have had sent me an email explaining the excuse at the time.
  • Orientation Presentation is added.

Below is more feedback on writing reports. Unfortunately repeating some basic points...

  • Use the template provided as attachment in each experiment announcement including the cover letter.
  • Type your theoretical solutions as equations using equation editor
    • Pictures of handwritten solutions are not preferred unless otherwise mentioned.
    • When defining quantities or writing equations with regard to some quantity, make sure to show the express the definition and reference the quantity clearly.
    • Add sentences between equations to clarify the steps being taken, e.g., "Using KCL on node A", "Define R_a to be the equivalent resistor of R1 and R2" or "below are the equations for nodes A, B and C respectively" etc.
  • Pay attention to the formatting of your reports
    • Do not paste your work as pictures underneath each other without any formatting
    • Add titles to your paragraphs and captions to your figures
    • Do not leave meaningless spaces in the pages
    • Organize your figures so that the quantities are clear and readable
    • In short, make an effort to make the report as readable, informative and clear as possible

KOM2742 Electrical Circuits Lab. - Experiment 2 (Minor update)
Deney Föyü
3.03.2025

Attached is the pre-experiment report questions and directives for experiment 2. Below are some notes about your pre-experiment reports for experiment 1. Consider them as feedback.

  • Use computer-based text editing tools like Microsoft Word or Latex to write the reports.
  • Use equation editors to write equations. You can find it under Insert>Equation in Word.
  • The questions and directives has the details that you need to follow to solve the questions.
    • Read the text carefully to understand what needs to be done,
    • e.g., if the question only asks to write the equations, write the equations symbolically and do not solve for the values of the symbols.
  • When defining quantities, make sure to specify necessary details about it, e.g., the polarity of a voltage difference or the direction of a current.
  • Experiment sheet had a minor update to add points for each question and change the order of them.

KOM2742 Electrical Circuits Lab. - Exporting images from Proteus
Diğer
2.03.2025

I got an email from one of our students regarding exporting images from Proteus vs. using screenshots in the pre-experiment reports. I recommend exporting as it results in high-resolution graphics that will be helpful for your reports to be more readable and look more professional. Below is the method I found after some research and playing with Proteus.

  • From File menu, select Mark Output Area,
  • Select an area in the schematic screen that you want to export,
  • Run the simulation that probe and sensor measurements appear in the output image,
  • Again from File>Export Graphics, select Export Bitmap
  • In the Export Bitmap window,
    • Select Scope as Marked Area,
    • Select Resolution as a high enough DPI, I personally use 600 DPI,
    • In Colours, select whether you want it in black and white (mono) or select the color resolution, Display would probably be the best,
    • From Background, select background color to be white.
    • Press on Filename,
      • Select the folder that you want to output to,
      • Name the file,
      • Press on Save
  • In order not to lose graphic resolution, in your Word document,
    • Go to File>Options
    • From the popping Word Options window, go to Advanced
    • Scroll down to Image Size and Quality and check "Do not compress images in file"
  • Do not forget to properly resize, format, annotate etc. the image if needed.
I hope this helps.

28.02.2025

Attached is the pre-experiment report questions and directives for experiment 1.

  • Each team is required to send a single .pdf file of the report due at 12:30 PM on experiment day (Monday 03/03/2025). This rule is valid for all experiments for the rest of the semester.
  • A designated member of each team will be responsible for sending all pre-experiment reports for all the experiments.
  • Pay attention to the naming of the file and the subject of the email before sending.
    • They should both follow the format: "GrX_TeamY_ExpZ_KOM2742"

A quick reminder of some important rules goes as follows.

  • Preparing pre-experiment reports together with other teams is only allowed if the final resulting reports show different attempts to prepare them. Any identical reports will be eliminated as cheating.
  • Using ChatGPT or any other LLMs to fully generate answers to questions will cause a direct decrease in your report grade.

  • Changes may occur to teams according to the results of the add/drop petitions, non-attending students in the first few weeks, emergencies, etc.
  • Because of the late announcement of the teams list, you are not required to bring any materials for experiment 0 and a brief recap of electrical equipment will done before experiment 1 next week.

Attached is the syllabus for the course.

If any problem is faced while downloading MATLAB, please consider doing the following,

  • Go to https://www.mathworks.com/downloads/ and log in to your Mathworks account.
  • If you do not already have an account, click on "Create one!" and create an account using your student email (ending with @std.yildiz.edu.tr)
  • Click on "Download for Windows" to start the download.
  • While installing please make sure to download all toolboxes related to course content, i.e., Symbolic Toolbox and Simulink.
  • As we will be using them extensively in the next years, I recommend, if possible, to download Simscape and Control Systems Toolbox for the least. Try playing around with them. Do not hesitate to contact me by email for a more comprehensive list. If enough people are interested I can share more content around that here on Avesis.

Wish you all the best,
