This study aims to analyze concentration in the Turkish banking industry over the 2003-2016 period which witnesses to the structural transformation of the banking industry and the global financial crisis. To that end, we calculate Herfindahl-Hirshman and Hall-Tideman indexes using the total assets, total deposits, total loans, and the total number of branches of Turkish commercial banks. Results indicate that concentration decreases in terms of total assets and total branches. However, we get the opposite results when total loans and total deposits are concerned. Therefore, one should take into account different indexes and different indicators for a better understanding of the banking sector.
