Özet

In recent years, number of planing hulls have been increased dramatically. Because of their different behavior from the conventional hulls, accurate prediction of their hydrodynamic performance is vital in design stage. During last decades, computational fluid dynamics (CFD) method has been become very popular and an important tool in ship hydrodynamic studies.

In the present study, hydrodynamic characteristics of a planing hull called Fridsma Hull is investigated numerically in calm water. Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) equations was for various Froude (Fr) numbers from 0.6 to 1.5. Various turbulence models were tested in order to find the most appropriate turbulence model for such problems. Volume of fluid (VOF) method was selected to represent the free surface. The results obtained from the numerical study were compared with experimental data in terms of total resistance and dynamic trim. It was found that the results were satisfactorily in good agreement with experimental data.
