Abstract:

The study hereof analyzes the American effect on the Ottoman public opinion during the period between September 1918 and May 1919. The journals and the political organizations are the subjects of the analysis as the elements of the Ottoman public opinion. Mainly cross-referred sources are the journals of the period, the documents of the political organizations, the memoirs and the secondary sources on the period. This is the main conclusion of this study that the Turkish nationalists who were predominantly Union and Progress origin were the most effective reflectors and reproducers of the American effect. In addition, the Ottomans who quoted the Wilson Principles did not aim to establish a government controlled by United States, they aimed to legitimize their own claims on the basis of the universal values represented by the Wilson Principles.
