Cross-drive automatic transmissions play an important role in the field of high mobility tracked vehicles. Although the change speed pack of a typical cross-drive transmission is very similar to the power shift (automatic) type of transmissions, cross-drive automatic transmissions have superimposed steering technology that enables the transmission having different speeds at the two output shafts. To analyze the effects of steering input during changing gears, a dynamic mathematical model of such transmission is required. In this study, dynamics equations of a typical cross-drive automatic transmission is developed by using Lagrange method. Using the developed model, the effect of having steering input while changing gears is evaluated. Finally, the results are compared with the non-steered scenarios.
