Project selection has a great importance for effective project management aligning organizational goals that drive opportunities in construction industry. Considering the environmental challenges associated with the construction industry, green building projects has rapidly gained momentum lately. The selection between green and traditional projects influences not only the financial performance and market competitiveness of contractors but also their environmental impact, regulatory compliance, and alignment with broader societal goals. This decision requires careful consideration of both short-term costs and long-term benefits for sustainable development. Following, the purpose of this study is to identify critical factors for selecting green over traditional building projects, in light of Choosing by Advantages (CBA) method. Aligning with this purpose, a systematic literature review was conducted to identify the factors with the emphasis on the comparative studies of green and traditional building construction projects. Overall, 14 factors were determined within four categories: (i) operational, (ii) financial, (iii) environmental, and (iv) legal. The review showed that environmetal aspects establish the most significant factor, while “energy consumption” and “environmental protection degree of building materials” are the most significant sub-factors in this category. This study contributes aiding researchers create a robust decision-making input to implement CBA method in various project selection problems. This study also provides a basis for development of the necessary factors for the selection of projects in the industry.
