Özet

Roman architect Vitruvius stated in his book titled 10 Books on architecture written in 1. Century BC that a successful architectural work should have 3 main features: Venustas (beauty, artistic or aesthetic dimension), Utilitas (functionality, utility or social benefit) and Firmitas (strength and solidity, technological dimension). It is possible to say that these three main features are still important today and to see their reflections on the construction of the education programs. When we examine the architectural education programs, it is seen that the knowledge of students in aesthetic, cultural and technical fields have been tried to increase by compulsory, elective and practical courses in architectural education and to bring this information together in the project courses. Based on the artistic or aesthetic dimension of architecture, it is considered that it is important for the students who want to study architecture to have interests especially in the fields of culture and art. Within the scope of this study, it was tried to evaluate the interests and knowledge of 1st Grade students who are new in the Architecture Education. In this context, a 10-item questionnaire was conducted with the first year students of the YTU Faculty of Architecture Department of Architecture. Within the scope of the paper, firstly, the multifaceted structure of Architecture and Architectural Education will be tried to be put forward. In the original section of this study, it is aimed to examine how the survey study with architecture students is conducted, the selected questions, the answers of the students, and the general evaluations obtained from the survey study. Finally, studies on art and culture education in secondary education will be proposed in order to improve the level of architectural students.
