Hayâlât-ı Dil, published in 1868 by Hasan Tevfik, is one of the most important milestones of the transition to the novel in Turkish literature. The adventure of the Murg-ı Dil, who is in love with Cânân, is told in the book. In the first part of it, there is a conversation in which Murg-ı Dil tells Cânân about his suffering and complaints about the sorrow he feels. Since she gets angry at these complaints and disrespects, Cânân leaves her lover and goes to an unknown place. Then, Murg-ı Dil begins to search his beloved. Throughout his journey, Murg-ı Dil faces with some challenges such as being captured by the savages and being a commander in a war. Thanks to the supports of Pîr and Nâyâb, he gets rid of these situations and finally reaches Cânân. In the frame of the adventure of a lover who struggles in order to come together with his beloved, Hayâlât-ı Dil aims to give the reader some advice, to criticize the political and military policies and social disorders of the epoch. Although Hayâlât-ı Dil maintains the tradition of Folk literature and Divan literature in general, it comes closer to the novel in terms of content and characters. Despite the importance in the history of Turkish literature, no independent study has been conducted about the book yet. In the first section of this book, the place of Hayâlât-ı Dil in Turkish literature will be emphasized and the text will be evaluated in point of its form and content. In the second section, there will be the modern Turkish translation of Hayâlât-ı Dil and in the third section, there will be the Latinised form of it. In the last section of the book, there will be the facsimile text.
