An initially stressed stratified half-plane whose free surface is under a normal harmonic point force is considered. It is assumed that the layers are rigidly held together. A model linearized by means of the Fourier transform is used to analyze the effect of the static homogenous initial stresses in the outer layer, which are much larger than vibration-induced stresses, on the normal and shear stresses at the interface.
