The effect of roller taper on webs

Webs moving through process machinery encounter several rollers, each of which might have unintentional taper in radius. The taper might have resulted from machining or from wear. The objectives of this study were to show, for a particular web, the level of cross machine direction registration error that might result for a given roller taper, the level of taper that will induce web trough instability in free spans, and the level of taper that will induce web wrinkle instabilities on rollers.
