Özet

Epics are one of the most important elements of Turkish culture and civilization. Turks have a tradition of singing epics, performed in the victory fields after a war, after a very fruitful hunt, and at wedding ceremonies held for occasions such as weddings and child naming. Epics have survived to this day as a common sense of entertainment for the rulers and the ruled in the ancient Turks from the earliest times. Epic epics of the Turkish world can be defined in their simplest form as the life stories or stories of heroic adventures of a hero or group of heroes with extraordinary characteristics., Epics have a very different place and importance in the Turkmen narrative tradition. Archaic epics such as Han-name and Oğuzname, which are mentioned in historical records and related to the origin of the Turks or Oghuzs, and the narratives in the Book of Dede Korkut, which is about the lifestyle of the Oghuzs, are of great historical and cultural importance for the Turkmens. The Ottoman Empire is mentioned as a nation of Turkmen origin in works written in Egypt, Syria and Iran. There are statements in Ottoman sources that their roots come from the Oghuz provinces. It can be said that Turkmens were the founders of the period of Principalities, one of which was the Ottomans, which was the second period of Turkey's history. In this study, we will try to convey information about the epics, their performers and their characteristics, which are very rich oral tradition products in Turkmen folk literature, which constitute a part of the great Turkish cultural treasury, and briefly about the epic tradition, and an evaluation will be made about Turkmen epic writing by bringing together the information obtained from various sources.
