Özet

Alternative shielding gas supply in gas metal arc welding has been researched by some scientists. One of these alternative gas supply designs has been based on conventional GMAW torch, which enables two concentric shielding gas supply from discrete channels. Modified GMAW (DMAG) torch has been used along with solid and metal cored wires in welding of S235JR low-carbon steel base and web plates with three different thicknesses, i.e., 6 mm, 8 mm, and 10 mm, in order to form T-joints. After having macrographs of these T-joints, deposition areas of welding wires have been calculated using software and then, cost of welding for each T-joint, based on shielding gas, welding wire, and electricity consumptions has been calculated and compared with the cost obtained with the use of conventional GMAW. © 2014 WIT Press.
