A Study on the Preference
of City Dwellers for the illumination of Mosque Facades
Historical mosques, one of the symbols of the city, can have very different appearances when illuminated, depending on the techniques and approach applied. The aim of this study is to investigate the attitudes of people towards different facade lighting alternatives of historical mosques implemented by white and/or coloured light. For this purpose, two historical mosques in Istanbul were selected. Suitable lighting alternatives for each mosque have been explored. Different lighting design alternatives have been created for each mosque and each of these alternatives were composed separately using white light and/or coloured light. A survey was conducted to evaluate these alternatives created in Lumion visually.
