Simplified Seismic Performance Assessment of Archetype RC-MRF systems in Hatay Region under Extreme Events

Özet
Two consecutive earthquakes, with
magnitudes of Mw=7.7 and Mw=7.6, occurred nine hours apart on February 6, 2023.
Among heavily damaged cities, Hatay province has the highest casualties and
financial losses compared to cities close to the epicenter of the earthquake.
In addition to residential buildings, the collapse of hospital buildings and
heavy damage to infrastructure systems led to disruptions in disaster
management, resulting in casualties and significant financial losses. In this
study, the recorded earthquake ground motions within the borders of Hatay
province caused mass destruction that exceeded the design earthquake ground
motions.
Within the scope of this study, the
seismic performance of code-compliant moment-resisting-frame structures was
assessed through nonlinear analysis procedures, namely nonlinear-static
procedures and time-history analysis. Moreover, the effectiveness and consistency
of the simplified analysis procedures were examined for a rapid assessment of a
two-dimensional frame structure. The influence of modelling assumptions was
comparatively studied in this study for varying structural characteristics.
