This study is a prior attempt at the influence of the cylindrical piezoelectric inclusion in a rectangular elastic plate on the natural vibration of this plate utilizing 3D exact equations of the piezo-elastodynamics theories. Mathematical modeling of the problem is formulated within the scope of the 3D exact equations of electro-elasticity theory using the piecewise homogeneous body model. It is supposed that the plate has simply-supported mechanically and short-circuit conditions with respect to the electric potential along all its lateral edge surfaces and ideal contact conditions are provided at the interface surfaces between the piezoelectric (PZT) inclusion and the elastic matrix. The solution to the corresponding free vibration problems is determined numerically by 3D FEM, and the influence of the size, volume fraction, and location of the piezoelectric inclusion as well as the coupling effect between the mechanical and electrical fields on the natural frequencies of the PZT rectangular plate are given.
