Abstract

In this study, a finite element (FE) code is developed to analyse a special problem dealing with the functionally graded material (FGM). MATLAB, the high-level language will be used to create the FE-code which includes a 4-, 8-, and 17-noded quadrilateral finite elements. Numerical results are verified with a patch test problem to show the accuracy and reliability of the present code. It is applied to the two retaining wall problems one of which has a functionally graded material (stone and mortar). In the analysis of this problem, material property changes with a continuous function along the main direction of the material. It is worth to say that the developed code give well agreeable results.
