In many countries of the world, there are incentive systems to increase the use of renewable energy and to meet the electricity needs of consumers. In some cases, if the tariffs and scopes are not well defined, these incentives may lead to excessive profitability in investments or technical problems in the security of grid supply. A similar arrangement was made in Turkey last year and a restriction on grid electricity sales was introduced in the Unlicensed Electricity Generation Legistation, to which small and medium-sized renewable energy investments are subject. This will affect the large number of existing unlicensed PV power plants in the country and potential future investments. In this study, the effects of grid sales restrictions on an existing investment are analysed with financial metrics. Then, it is calculated how the installed power plant of a solar power plant should be selected for a good investment under the grid sales constraints. Finally, the results are compared to evaluate both the effectiveness of right sizing and the unlicensed (licence exempt) PV power plants for future investments.
