Özet
Public road lighting is an important part of urban infrastructure, with a significant impact on road safety. In recent years, municipalities have increasingly adopted solid-state light-emitting diode (LED) technologies as a more energy-efficient alternative to conventional discharge lamps in road lighting projects. This study was conceptualized to compare, analyze, and evaluate LED-based road lighting systems with type II and type III luminous intensity distribution patterns. For single-sided installation layouts, extensive photometric simulations were carried out, and two extensive datasets, comprising 750000 simulated design combinations in the form of a full-factor grid over luminaire mounting height (h), pole spacing (S), tilt (δ), overhang (yl), road width (b), and five power ratings (P), were created. Multiple regression analysis was performed with the datasets to propose linear models to predict average road surface horizontal illuminance (Eav), overall uniformity of road surface horizontal illuminance (U0), and installation energy efficiency (ϵ) from seven predictor variables, and characteristic interrelationships among various parameters were explored. The results indicated that pole spacing (S) and luminaire mounting height (h) were the most important predictor variables. Type II LED luminaires provided slightly higher illuminance levels for a given power rating, type III LED luminaires maintained good uniformity even at larger pole spacings, and the carriageway width-mounting height ratio to installation energy efficiency characteristics followed a cubic relationship. A lightweight decision support tool was also developed with the linear models. This study will be useful to municipal engineers and utility operators in the modelling and execution of illumination projects for public roads and streets.
