Abstract

Multi-cycle operators and prolonged switching times in memristive crossbars lead to increased latency, while the notable memory cell requirements for intermediate computations further exacerbate initialization energy overheads. In this study, we propose a fast, single-cycle majority operator that eliminates the need for additional read-write operations in memristive crossbar structures. In addition, we introduce multi-output logic primitives to further reduce both the number of computational steps and the switching time. Using these primitives, we design N-bit ripple carry adders and ripple borrow subtractors based on majority and minority logic, optimized for memristive crossbar implementations. The proposed MIN-based design achieves high energy efficiency and requires fewer computational steps compared to existing approaches. The MAJ-based design, on the other hand, offers a 2× speed improvement with only a modest increase in energy consumption, due to significantly shortened step times. Furthermore, due to the parallel structure of the proposed logic, the design exhibits improved robustness against device variations.
