Abstract

The thermal conductivities of the Pb solution (Pb-3.3 wt.% Cd), the Cd solution (Cd-0.25 wt.% Pb), the Sn solution (Sn-1 wt.% Zn), the eutectic Pb-Cd (Pb-17.4 wt.% Cd) and the eutectic Sn-Zn (Sn-8.9 wt.% Zn) were measured with a radial heat flow apparatus up to eutectic temperature, T-E. The thermal conductivity ratios of the eutectic liquid phase to the eutectic solid phase, R for the Pb-Cd and Sn-Zn binary alloys were found with a Bridgman type directional solidification apparatus at T-E. Thus, the thermal conductivities of the eutectic liquid phases, K-L, for the Pb-Cd and Sn-Zn eutectic binary alloys were obtained by using the values of kappa(s) and R at their eutectic temperature. Finally, the results have been compared with previous experimental values for binary alloys and pure materials. (c) 2007 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
