Soil Mechanics and Foundation Engineering Second Special Topic Symposium, Antalya, Türkiye, 24 Nisan 2014, ss.119-124
Generally in designing pile supported structures, soil – pile interaction is ignored and the structure
system is analyzed assuming the superstructure rests on rigid base or using motions obtained from free-field
site response analysis. However, pile foundations embedded into the ground resist soil displacements emanating
from dynamic loading, such as an earthquake, and change the response of the surrounding soil. The kinematic
soil – pile interaction varies with differing properties of soil, pile, and input motion. In this study, the effect of
soil thickness on kinematic interaction is investigated parametrically by using a numerical model based on finite
elements method.
