Özet
This paper investigates the air-side thermo-hydraulic performance of a cross-flow bar-and-plate heat exchanger under laminar flow conditions. Experimental correlations and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations are used to evaluate the thermal and flow characteristics of air at an inlet temperature of −10 °C and inlet velocities ranging from 1 to 3.5 m/s. The numerical simulations are performed in ANSYS Fluent, and the resulting Colburn j-factor and Fanning friction factor (f) are compared with the empirical correlations of Kays and London for a geometrically similar plate-fin surface. The CFD predictions show deviations of 11–21% for the Colburn j-factor and 8–22% for the Fanning friction factor relative to the experimental correlations. The results demonstrate satisfactory agreement with the reference data, confirming the validity of the numerical model and the effectiveness of CFD simulations for evaluating and designing bar-and-plate heat exchangers.
