Abstract

© The Turkish Online Journal of Educational Technology. The mechanics of rigid bodies is the foundation of most engineering sciences and is an indispensable prerequisite to their study. The purpose of rigid body mechanics courses is to provide engineering students with ability to analyze any problem in a simple and logical manner and to apply to its basic principles which are few and well-understood for solutions. Therefore, it has an important role in engineering education. The mechanics of rigid bodies is subdivided into statics and dynamics. Statics deals with rigid bodies at rest, dynamics deals with rigid bodies in motion. In this paper, engineering curriculum followed by the Turkish Universities has been examined as per their programmes of the statics and dynamics courses covering the knowledge of the mechanics of rigid bodies. The statics and dynamics course programmes which are necessary for the mechanical engineering have been evaluated regarding the international accreditation criteria.
