Özet

In this study, 2-(Carboxymethoxy) thioxanthone (TXOCH₂COOH) as one-component Type II photoinitiator [1], and Cysteine were used for esterification of polyvinyl alcohol. The effect of covalent linkage of TX group and cysteine via esterification reaction on PVA was investigated in terms of the photophysical properties of this synthesized environmentally friendly polymeric photoinitiator (PVA-TX-Cys). The UV-Vis absorption spectrum of PVA-TX-Cys confirmed the covalent binding of TX because the peak of typical TX absorption at 397 nm belonging to the Thioxanthone chromophore group was detected [2]. Fluorescence emission spectrum was also recorded when the solution of PVA-TX-Cys was excited at 397 nm wavelength. When formulations were poured into a mold and dried in the air, and a flexible film was obtained. FTIR was also used for characterization of covalent attachment of the TX chromophore group. Additionally, Silver nitrate (AgNO₃) was added to the formulation and irradiated at certain time intervals, and then in-situ formation of Ag nanoparticles was confirmed by the UV-Vis absorption spectrum. Because PVA has industrial importance [3], this synthesis will help produce environmentally friendly flexible photoactive films that can be used for medical purposes as well as other industrial applications.
