The main problem encountered in the manufacturing of nanocomposites is dispersing of nanofillers such
as graphene, carbon nanotubes, etc. into the matrix material. In this work, two main strategies: ultrasonic dispersion
(sonication) and three roll milling (3RM) that are widely used as main dispersion strategies are compared.
Nanocomposite specimens are prepares using epoxy (Araldite LY 564) as the matrix material, with a graphene
nano flakes (GNF) fraction of 0.1 % wt. Specimens are subjected to compression tests at quasi-static loading at
room temperature. To investigate viscoelastic and vicoplastic behaviors, compression tests are performed at 1.E3 /s and 1.E-1 /s strain rates. Elasticity modulus, yield strength and toughness values are obtained through the
compression tests. No difference on elasticity modulus is observed. However, 3RM has been proven to give better
results in terms of yield strength and toughness values.
