Inorganic polymers
are fascinating groups of macromolecules, these polymers are referred to
as a macromolecule whose chains are composed of at least one inorganic element
such as silicon, phosphorus, boron, germanium, phosphorous,
oxygen, sulphur,
nitrogen, selenium atoms and so on. There are many examples of inorganic
polymers such as polysiloxanes, polyphosphazenes, polysilanes and carborane-containing polymers. The primary feature
of these polymers is high-temperature
stability as well as flame retardancy in comparison with an organic polymer, which enables it to be applied
in form of flame retardant materials in a variety of high-performance application, and also these polymers can be
applied as precursors of ceramics. In
this chapter, diverse features inorganic polymers and their flame retardant
properties, as well as applications, are briefly reviewed.
