Özet
Neural regenerative medicine is an important approach in the improvement, regeneration, and restoration of the functions of damaged neural cells, tissues, and organs. Although nanomaterials that can pass the blood–brain barrier are frequently used in neural regenerative medicine, they carry risk due to their potential to induce neural degeneration and neurotoxicity. The neurotoxicity of nanomaterials is associated with mechanisms such as oxidative stress caused by reactive oxygen species and reactive nitrogen species, apoptosis, autophagy, and cell and DNA damage based on their physical and chemical characteristics. In this chapter, neurotoxicity and biocompatibility of nanomaterials used in neural regenerative medicine have been evaluated along with the routes of the entrance, mechanism of neurotoxicity, and the biocompatibility of nanomaterials.
