Abstract

Furo-/thienopyridines constitute a class of heterocyclic compounds that have garnered significant attention in medicinal chemistry due to their diverse biological activities and potential therapeutic applications. These compounds represent a versatile class that, in addition to their importance in medicinal chemistry, also have significant implications in materials science. Ongoing research into their synthesis and functionalization is essential for unlocking their full potential. This review features synthetic approaches to the preparation of furo-/thienopyridines published from 2008 until 2025, with a primary focus on the [2,3-c] fusion. Older reports will be mentioned where appropriate for comparison. The characteristics and applications of the described compounds are discussed and summarized in tables.
