Bu çalışmada Barok dönem sanatçılarından Caravaggio’nun yaşamı ve eserleri incelenmiş; eserlerinde bir ifade
biçimi olarak kullandığı teatral etkiler araştırılmıştır. Söz konusu etkilerin oluşumunda fotoğraf tekniğinin ilk izleri
sayılan cameraobscura ‘nın rolü de araştırılmış ve sanatçının eserlerine katkısı incelenmiştir. On Yedinci yüzyılda gelişen
olaylar yeni birtakım sanatsal tekniklerin ortaya çıkmasına zemin hazırlamış ve bu bağlamda sanatçılar eserlerinde yeni
tekniklere yer vermişlerdir. Özellikle bu dönemde meydana gelen mezhep çatışmaları da Barok üslubun gelişimini
etkileyerek Barok Resim Sanatında gelişmelere zemin hazırlamıştır. Resim, heykel, mimari gibi pek çok sanat alanında
kendini göstermiş olan Barok üslup, getirmiş olduğu yeni bakış açısıyla farklı etkiler yansıtmıştır. Işık-gölge
kullanımının farklı bir anlayışla ele alınmasıyla önceki dönemlerden farklı bir tarz elde edilmiştir. Eserlerde görülen aşırı
hareketlilik ve süslemeci yaklaşım, gerek mimaride gerekse resim ve heykel gibi alanlarda etkili olmuştur. Rönesans’ın
merkezi kompozisyonundaki geometrik üslubun ve kapalı kompozisyon anlayışının Barok üslup ile değişerek farklı bir
boyuta ulaşması, Barok Resim Sanatının temel niteliği haline gelmiştir. Dini konuların resmedilmeye devam edildiği
Barok Resim sanatında günlük yaşamın da yavaş yavaş resimlerde yer bulduğu görülür. Resimsel elemanların resim
düzleminin içinde olmak zorunda olması durumu, Barok üslubun getirdiği açık kompozisyon anlayışıyla ortadan
kalkarken, resimsel unsurlar tablonun her yönüne dağılım göstermiştir. Caravaggio’nun da eserlerinde olayın bir kesit
halinde sunuluşu bu anlayışın izlerini taşımıştır. Barok üslubu kendine özgü tekniklerle geliştirerek yeni bir tarz
yakalayan Caravaggio’nun, bunu yaparken teatral ifadelere yer verdiği ve ışık kullanımıyla bu dramatik etkiyi
güçlendirdiği görülmüştür. Böylece sanatçı kendinden sonra gelen sanatçıları da etkilemiştir. Sanatçının eserlerinde
aktardığı konuyu ele alırken etkili ifade biçimlerine yer vermesi, gerçekleştirilen bu çalışmanın da konusu oluşturmuş ve
bu doğrultuda teatral etkinin Caravaggio’nun eserlerindeki yansımaları araştırılarak söz konusu durumun nedenleri
açığa çıkarılmıştır. Yapılan bu araştırma neticesinde Caravaggio’nun meydana getirdiği üslubun günümüz sinema ve
fotoğraf sanatlarının kaynağı olduğu fikri ağırlık kazanmıştır.

In this study, the life and works of Caravaggio, one of the Baroque artists, were investigated and the theatrical
influences that he used as a form of expression were investigated. The role of camera obscura, which was considered as
the first traces of photographic technique in the formation of these effects, was also investigated and the contribution of
the artist to his Works was examined. The events in the 17th century provided the basis for he emergence of new artistic
techniques, and in this context, the artists included new techniques in their works. The sectarian conflicts that took place
during this periodal so affected the development of the Baroque style and prepared the ground for developments in Baroque painting. Baroque style, which has shown itself in many art fields such as painting, sculpture and architecture,
has reflected different effects with its new perspective. The use of light and shadow in a different way has been different
than the previous periods. The excessive mobility and ornamental approach seen in the works have been effective in
both architecture and painting and sculpture. The geometric style in the central composition of Renaissance and the
concept of closed composition have changed to Baroque style and become a different dimension. In the Baroque painting
where religious subjects are stil being depicted, daily life is gradually found in pictures. The fact that the pictorial
elements had to be in the plane of painting, disappeared with the open composition approach brought by the Baroque
style, and the pictorial elements were distributed through out the table. The presentation of Caravaggio’s works in a
cross-section has traced this understanding. Caravaggio, who developed a new style by developing Baroque style with
his own techniques, found theatrical expressions in doing so and strengthened this dramatic effect with the use of light.
Thus, the artist influenced the artists who came after him. The fact that the artist has included effective forms of
expression while discussing the subject he conveyed in his works has formed the subject of this work and in this
direction the reasons of the situation have been revealed by investigating the reflections of the theatrical influence in
Caravaggio’s works. As a result of this research, the idea that Caravaggio’s style is the source of contemporary cinema
and photography arts has gained weight.
