Abstract

Chalcone derivatives constitute an important class of α,β-unsaturated carbonyl compounds that are widely investigated due to their versatile structural frameworks and significance in medicinal chemistry. Structural modification of the chalcone backbone through heteroaryl substitution represents an effective strategy for altering electronic distribution, conjugation, and heteroatom-mediated interactions, which are key factors influencing biological activity [1].

Within this framework, a series of new heteroaryl-substituted chalcone derivatives were designed, synthesized, and structurally characterized. The target compounds were obtained via Claisen–Schmidt condensation of selected heteroaryl aldehydes with substituted acetophenone derivatives under basic conditions at room temperature. Structural characterization was carried out using FTIR, ¹H NMR, ¹³C NMR, and Q-TOF spectroscopic techniques (Figure 1).

The incorporation of heteroaryl units into the chalcone skeleton is expected to modulate conjugation, molecular polarity, and heteroatom-driven interactions with biological targets. The novelty of this work lies in the synthesis of previously unreported heteroaryl chalcone derivatives and in the preliminary evaluation of their biological activity potential based on structure-activity considerations. The results provide a foundation for future in vitro biological assays and further optimization studies.
