19. yüzyılda fotoğrafın icadı tüm dünyada olduğu gibi Osmanlı İmparatorluğu’nda da büyük bir ilgiyle karşılanmıştır. Fotoğraf keşfedildiği dönemden itibaren Osmanlı’da benimsenmiş, gücünün ve etkisinin farkına varılmasıyla birlikte farklı şekillerde kullanım alanları imparatorluk içinde genişlemiştir.
Sultan II. Abdülhamid fotoğrafın erken dönemlerinden itibaren fotoğrafın taşıdığı gücü fark edip bu gücü diplomasi için kullanan önemli isimlerin başında gelmektedir. Bu amaçla derlenen Sultan’ın Yıldız Fotoğraf Albümleri, 19. yüzyılda Osmanlı İmparatorluğu’nda fotoğraf endüstrisine hizmet etmesi bakımından fotoğraf tarihinde önemli bir yere sahiptir.
Büyük bir fotoğraf tutkunu olan Sultan II. Abdülhamid’ in fotoğrafın temsil gücünü erken dönemlerde keşfetmiş olması sayesinde, döneminde fotoğrafı tanıtım, propaganda ve imaj yaratmada etkili bir biçimde kullandığı görülmektedir.
19. yüzyılda dünyada fotoğrafın bir sanat dalı olup olmadığı konusunda tartışmalar yaşanırken Osmanlı’ da fotoğrafın güzel sanatların bir dalı olarak anıldığı, basında yurtdışında basılan yeni fotoğraf yayınları hakkında bilgiler verilip fotoğrafın parlak geleceği üzerine yazıların yer aldığı, fotoğraf yarışmalarının düzenlendiği görülmektedir. Bunun yanı sıra raporlama ve günlük olayları tespit amacıyla da fotoğraf bu dönemde önemli bir araç olarak kullanılmıştır.
Bu çalışmada, günümüz fotoğraf endüstrisi içinde kabul gören, fotoğrafın ana unsurlarının, ülke coğrafyası içerisinde varoluşu ve şekillenişi incelenmeye çalışılmıştır.
The invention of photography has met with great interest in the Ottoman Empire as well as in the world. Photography has been adopted by The Ottoman since its discovery period, and has expanded in different ways of usage areas of through the empire after the awareness of its power and influence.
The Sultan II. Abdulhamid, who had realized the power of photography since its early stages, was one of the important names using this power to diplomacy. The Sultan’s Yildiz Photography Albums have an important place in history of photography for their services to the Ottoman Empire’s photography industry in 19th century
It has been seen that the Sultan II. Abdulhamid was a photography passion and he was discovered the representation power of photography in its early stages. Thanks to this, he has been used it effectively for promotion, propaganda and image creation through his period.
While a debate about whether photography was an art form or not in the world of 19th century, it has been found that it was accepted as an art form in the Ottoman Empire. It is known that photography competitions were arranged, the public had been informed about recently published photographs and texts were written about the bright future photography in the Ottoman. Moreover, it was an important tool to create reports and identify daily events in that period.
In this study, it is intended to enlighten the existence and in shaping the main elements of the photography, that are accepted by the recent photography industry, with in the borders of our land.
